About the event

Experience this important ancient holiday at America's Stonehenge!

The site and museum will be open from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, September 22nd in observance of the Fall Equinox, allowing you to witness the solar alignments and illuminations that take place on this special day.

At the beginning of the day, the sun can be seen rising over the Equinox Standing Stone on the eastern site of the site. Shortly after sunrise, a remarkable illumination event occurs inside the Watch House Chamber. At sunset, crowds gather on the western side of the site to watch the sun sink below the horizon on the impressive Equinox Sunset Boulder.
