Bus Tours
If you are looking for something unique to
add to your bus tours, America's Stonehenge is just what you have been
looking for. We are conveniently located in Salem NH off of I-93 just 45
minutes North of Boston. We are about 1.5 hours from the Lakes Region
and are a perfect stop to break up a long bus ride and stretch your
legs.
A maze of man-made chambers, walls and
ceremonial meeting places, America's Stonehenge is most likely the
oldest man-made construction in the United States (over 4000 years
old).
Like Stonehenge in England, America's Stonehenge
was built by ancient people well versed in astronomy and stone
construction. It has been determined that the site is an accurate
astronomical calendar. It was, and still can be, used to determine
specific solar and lunar events of the year.
America's Stonehenge has been featured on
History Channel, Discovery Channel and has also been chosen numerous
times as a Yankee Travel Guide Editors Pick as well as one of Yankee's 7
Wonders of New England.
Upon arrival, we offer a
ten minute theater presentation to watch before the tour in order to give
visitors some background and history of the site. After the film , our
staff will hand out comprehensive tour guide maps to everyone. This self
guided tour generally takes 1 hour but can be shortened for those on a
tight schedule.
A 30 minute DVD is
available for loan upon request to those that have made reservations. The
DVD is a great way for your group to prepare for their visit and watch on
the way to America's Stonehenge for those with busses that are equipped
with DVD Players.
Our visitors center is
equipped with restrooms, an artifact display, small snack bar as well as a
gift shop.
